ตู้ Rack Server คือ เป็นตู้สำหรับใส่อุปกรณ์สื่อสาร หรืออุปกรณ์อเล็กทรอนิกส์ต่างๆ ครับ โดยมาพอพูดถึง Rack แล้วเราจะนึกถึงตู้ที่ใช้ใส่อุปกรณ์ของคอมพิวเตอร์สำหรับทำหน้าที่เป็น Server ครับ
ตู้ Rack?Server ออกแบบมาเพื่อใส่อุปกรณ์ดังกล่าวบนพื้นที่ใช้สอยอันมีจำกัด ดูเป็นระเบียบ และง่ายในการจัดการ บริหารอุปกรณ์ต่างที่มีมากมาย อีกทั้งช่วยในการประหยัดทรัพยากรบางตัว ในเมืองไทยก็เริ่มมีการใช้งานเพิ่มมากขึ้นแล้วครับ และเห็นหลากหลายในหลายแบบมากขึั้น ส่วนมากจะพบได้ตาม ศูนย์คอมพิวเตอร์ตามหน่วยงานต่าง, ผู้ให้บริการโทรคมนาคม, หรือผู้ใช้บริการอินเตอร์เน็ตทั่วไป
Rack มีหน่วยความสูงเรียกว่า U เช่น 6u ,9u , 12u, U, 20U, 40U เป็นต้น (1U = 44.45 ม.ม.) สูงสุดตอนนี้รู้สึกว่าจะเป็น 42U
Rack มีความกว้างหลายขนาด และเค้าจะใช้คำว่า RACK 19″ ในการขายมากกว่า
ซึ่งรายละเอียดดังกล่าวถูกกำหนดตามมาตราฐาน (ซึ่งผมก็จำชื่อหน่วยงานนั้นไม่ค่อยจะได้ ถ้าจำไม่ผิดน่าจะเป็น EIA นะครับ เปรียบได้กับหน่วย IEEE นั่นแหล่ะครับ)
อุปกรณ์ต่างๆ ทีใช้คืออุปกรณ์เชื่อมต่อและกระจายข้อมูลในระบบเครือข่ายมีหลายขนาด และหลายความสามารถทั้งนี้ขึ้นอยู่กับผู้ผลิตด้วยนะครับและต้องอ้างอิงกับมาตราฐานการสื่อสารสากลด้วย Hub มีหลายรูปแบบครับ แบบที่ใช้กับ Rack ก็มี แบบที่ใช้ตั้งโต๊ะก็มี
ตู้ Rack Server คือ
ปัจจุบันนี้การทำ hosting ส่วนใหญ่จะใช้งาน rack server เนื่องจากว่า IDC หรือ internet data center ที่เรานำ hosting ไปวางนั้นจะบังคับการวางในลักษณะ rack mount ซึ่งจะเป็นตู้ขนาดใหญ่ ตั้งทางแนวตั้ง ซึ่งจะวัดขนาดเป็น U ซึ่งขนาดตู้ก็มีหลายขนาดเช่น 6u, 9u,? 12U 16U 24U 32U และ 42U จะมีบาง IDC ที่เราสามารถที่จะนำ hosting ที่ทำจาก PC ไปวางได้ครับแต่ก็จะวางได้ปริมาณน้อยมากครับ ส่วนใหญ่ IDC ที่ให้วางในลักษณะ rack server จะจำกัดปริมาณไฟฟ้าที่สามารถใช้ได้ครับ เพิ่อการใช้งานทีดีในหลากหลายแบบ
